At last, my first visit to Hauser & Wirth Somerset in Bruton – the sculpture above can be seen clearly from the road, along with the (in)famous underpants installation by Pipilotti Rist.

Entering the courtyard we encountered this… and you can see part of the underpants line overhead.

The buildings are architect-converted from a historic ‘model’ farm, and very tasteful while staying true to the rural environment.

Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos in the galleries so I will have to entice you using words only. Go and experience Pipilotti Rist’s Mercy Garden video installation! Especially if you are stressed, or think all modern art is ugly. There are sheepskins to lie on and calming music…

Friends of mine on facebook who have been there already, want to return as often as possible. As for me, I was so impressed with the whole place that I immediately decided I want to work there – and I’ve already sent off an email with my updated CV.

Here are a couple more pics of some outside sculptures, but don’t just take my word for it – go and visit as soon as you can. Oh, and it’s free.
